Amanda, 37, of Winnipeg, was identified by her family as the woman who died while volunteering with K9 Advocacy Manitoba in Sandy Bay First Nation. Her passing has left colleagues, fellow volunteers, and community members devastated as they remember a woman whose compassion and dedication defined much of her life.
Those who worked alongside Amanda describe her as a passionate advocate who devoted years to supporting both animals and communities. She volunteered at spay and neuter clinics, fostered rescued dogs, coordinated transportation for animals requiring veterinary care, and collaborated with First Nations communities to address dog overpopulation through humane and compassionate solutions. According to Manitoba First Nations Police, Amanda was reported missing shortly after 12:45 a.m. on Friday. Authorities launched a search effort that included the use of cellphone location data and a drone. At approximately 6:00 a.m., a local maintenance worker located her deceased.
Police have confirmed that several aggressive dogs were found in the area where Amanda was discovered. However, officials have emphasized that the exact circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation. A post-mortem examination is expected to help determine the cause of death, and authorities have cautioned that many facts are still unknown at this stage.
